Spread over the ocean bed: NIrveda Alleck

    3 October 2026

Beneath the waters of Mauritius lie the traces of Mauritia, an ancient submerged continent. It is from this invisible presence that Arise takes its beginning, the video at the centre of Spread Over the Ocean Bed, Nirveda Alleck's first Italian solo exhibition, shown together with a selection of paintings about everything that has been pushed below the surface: the people, the names, the stories. A female figure, suspended on the threshold between land and ocean, gradually merges with the landscape, while wind, water, sand, salt and time become part of the creative process itself. The submerged is the thread running through the artist's whole practice: bringing back to the surface what history and the colonial gaze have hidden, erased or classified.

From 3 October 2026, Black Liquid Art Gallery, Rome. Curated by Antonella Pisilli. The video is presented concurrently with the 2nd Durrës International Biennale of Contemporary Art
