Amani Bodo Democratic Republic of the Congo, b. 1988
Born in Kinshasa in 1988, Amani Bodo is the youngest of the children of Pierre Bodo, one of the founders of the Congo Popular School.
Born with the gift of painting Amani from an early age began to paint supported and helped by his father. His works entered the prestigious Pigozzi collection of African contemporary art at the age of 21.
Inspired by the surrealist world of the Amani family with his technical ability and his hyperrealism, he can undoubtedly be considered the most talented artist of his country.
Aware of popular tradition, Amani Bodo recreates settings in his paintings that denounce or highlight social problems, inserting them, however, in unreal and timeless contexts such as in the painting "Moshorona zododo" where a man on the ground has a hand holding a hand instead of his head spinel while with the hand of the body a bottle of whiskey, at the bottom of the small characters represent the causes of vice and addiction.
In the painting “The imperor of football” Cristiano Ronaldo is represented as Napoleon Bonaparte on a white horse and wants to represent the expressive power of social media.
In the work "Les Héritiers Manquent" the artist uses his artistic knowledge and uses the Leonardo da Vinci rebus, "missing the heirs" to insert in the picture the two undisputed geniuses of art and himself emerging from the ground and quoting the work of Maurizio Cattelan.
All of Amani Bodo's works are characterized by a background that can be considered his artistic trademark. Amani calls them mwangisa, referring to the eruption of mottled colors, a sort of microdripping that replicates nebulae and where earth and sky come together and form a single continuum.
He lives and works in Kinshasa.
