Cheri Samba RDC, 1956
The strong critical sense of Samba, his desire to shock the public and tell the truth by painting what others do not have the courage to say is well represented in the work "Il n'existe pas d'amitié sans intérêt" where the artist who is always the subject of his works, he depicts himself sitting on a stool with his shirt torn and on the left a group of people running away. The explanation of the work is evident from the sentences inserted in the picture: in the first comic we read "Il n'a plus tien colui la. " Samba's habit of inserting the text in his works was born from the desire to see the public spend more time in front of his works and not casually as it did before he inserted the writings.
