Cristiano Mangovo Democratic Republic of Congo, b. 1982
Cristiano Mangovo is a visual artist that has completed the Academy of Fine Arts in Kinshasa (DR Congo) with additional training in urban scenography and performance. In his paintings and collages, Mangovo has developed various styles and symbols over the years, but always with a surrealistic twist. Recently, his work is dominated by deformed figures, painted in expressionist style, with multi-faceted faces and double mouths. Figures that have lost their realistic appearance and are rather a reflection of their personal character, feeling or movement.
By now Mangovo has participated in more than 50 exhibitions and performances in Angola, Portugal, France, Italy, South Africa, Zimbabwe, D.R. Congo, Belgium, Luxembourg and the US. He has won a number of prestigious prizes, including recently (again) the ENSA Arte prize 2018 for best visual artist of Angola.
